Art Sanctuary loves its volunteers, all the caring individuals who give of their time, talent and expertise to help the organization bring artistic excellence into the community. There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer while making new connections, seeing the art in action and meeting artists. Below is a listing of current volunteer opportunities and we welcome other skills not listed that you may have.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS 

Usher – Generally assists with guest management at events.  May include counting guests for reporting purposes.

  • Answering questions about the event
  • Collecting guest contact information
  • Counting guests for attendance reporting
  • Directing traffic
  • Greeting guests
  • Opening and closing the Main Gallery
  • Seating guests

Administrative Assistant – Generally assists with light office work as needed including the following tasks:

  • Answering and directing phone calls
  • Data entry
  • General clerical duties
  • Handling rental inquiries
  • Maintaining filing systems
  • Making phone calls
  • Organizing and scheduling appointments
  • Photocopying, scanning and faxing
  • Preparing and sending outgoing mailings and packages
  • Receiving, sorting and distributing incoming mail
  • Sending emails
  • Stuffing envelopes
  • Taking and distributing messages

Celebration of Black Writing Conference Assistant

  • Answering questions about the event
  • Collecting guest contact information
  • Counting guests for attendance reporting
  • Directing traffic
  • Greeting guests
  • Registration
  • Seating guests

Outdoor Festival Assistant

Gallery Assistant – Manages the open gallery hours as needed including the following tasks:

  • Answering questions about the exhibit
  • Opening and closing the Main Gallery
  • Taking and distributing messages

Facilities/Event Assistant – Responsible for maintenance and event setup as needed which may include the following tasks:

  • Cleaning kitchen and taking out trash
  • Opening and closing the Main Gallery
  • Preparing food offerings for events
  • Restocking paper products
  • Setting up tables, chairs and other equipment for events
  • Sweeping Main Gallery floors

Art Assistant – Generally helps to facilitate art projects with children which may include the following tasks:

  • Assisting children with art projects
  • Assisting with cleanup
  • Displaying art work
  • Preparing art supplies for projects

Technology and Sound Assistant – Generally helps with music and sound setup and control during live performances.
