Art Sanctuary offers programming that brings together artistic excellence and community connection. We hold African-American art in the light, and welcome all audiences to enjoy it.  Small, but intentional, tenacious, and effective, Art Sanctuary creates intimate educational programs to bring together thousands of students and families. By carefully selecting artist-citizens, we go beyond role-modeling to relationship.

Our new 16th and Bainbridge Streets headquarters allow us to plan for gallery exhibits now along with more intimate performances and classes. These augment our signature programs: the Celebration of Black Writing, North Stars, Reading in Concert.

Educational supports include off-the-rack and tailor-made: Class Acts, a series of classroom and large-venue matinee events, teacher workshops, and online curriculum guides.  To deepen impact we partner with up to 30 groups per year, from small grassroots, to the African American Museum of Philadelphia, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Opera Company of Philadelphia. We must share the work; the need is way bigger than we are. So are the rewards.
